semiconductors

The semiconductor market is one of the strategic sectors for attracting investments in Rio Grande do Sul.

Microelectronics is what results in high-tech solutions such as the Internet of Things, 5G, Smart Cities, Industry 4.0, Agribusiness 4.0, Health 4.0. Rio Grande do Sul has a promising market for the application of less sophisticated semiconductor chips, already produced in the state, in phones, tablets, smart TV, computers, cars, home appliances.

The highlight of RS in the sector is mainly due to the training of human capital excellence by the training centers of PUCRS, UFSM, UFRGS, Unisinos and the development of research for decades in the field of microelectronics. In addition, the State already has important companies installed, such as HT Micron, Impinj, EnSilicia, headquartered at Tecnopuc and Tecnosinos.

Another point of opportunity for Rio Grande do Sul was the creation, in the past by the National Center for Advanced Electronic Technology (Ceitec), state-owned, linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, based in Porto Alegre. Having CEITEC operating in Rio Grande do Sul for decades has enabled putting the acquired knowledge into practice and improving it based on market experience. Ceitic created highly qualified labor and know-how for the State in the area of semiconductors, as it is known for being the only one in Latin America to produce semiconductors on a large scale.

The strategies designed by Rio Grande do Sul include training, legislation, incentives and attraction of companies and human capital, seeking to consolidate an ecosystem capable of making RS a global reference in the area of semiconductors.
