The economy of Rio Grande do Sul is one of the five largest among Brazilian states, corresponding to 6% of Brazil's GDP (DDE 2022 ). GDP per capita is US$10,338 (2022) - 12% higher than the national average. It is the third highest per capita family income, 28.4% higher than the Brazilian average.

Rio Grande do Sul has a diversified economy with a strong association with agribusiness. In industry in Rio Grande do Sul, gross value added is distributed between Services (68%), Industry (23.2%) and Agriculture (8.8%). And it still has the fourth largest industrial park in the country. In the agricultural sector, Rio Grande do Sul has   status as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), which is of paramount importance for livestock farming.
