The economy of Rio Grande do Sul is one of the five largest among Brazilian states, corresponding to 6% of Brazil's GDP (DDE 2022 ). GDP per capita is $10,338 (2022) - 12% higher than the national average. It is the third highest per capita family income, 28.4% higher than the Brazilian average.

Rio Grande do Sul has a diversified economy with a strong association with agribusiness. In the industry of Rio Grande do Sul, gross value added is distributed among Services (68%), Industry (23.2%) and Agriculture (8.8%). The State is also the fifth largest consumer in Brazil.
