Rio Grande do Sul is the second largest furniture producer in the country - there are approximately 2,400 furniture industries and 37,400 direct jobs. The State is also the second largest furniture exporter in Brazil, having exported US$ 273 million in 2022. The main destinations for furniture from Rio Grande do Sul abroad were the United States, Uruguay, Chile, Peru and the United Kingdom.

The segment's revenue in Rio Grande do Sul was R$ 11.2 billion in 2021, a nominal growth of 36.5% compared to 2020. Job generation was also positive with a balance of 2,628 new direct jobs in comparison to the beginning of the same year

The planted forests of Rio Grande do Sul are distributed in six poles, around which industries have been installed that promote the development of the respective regions. The forest-based production chain generates goods and services for society, standing out for offering important contributions in the economic, social and environmental aspects.

The Serra Gaúcha is mainly composed of pine plantations; the Central and Southeast regions of the State, for black wattle and eucalyptus plantations; the Middle Coast also has pine as its main species; the North Region is made up of pine and eucalyptus plantations; Sul and Campanha, for eucalyptus and black wattle; and Fronteira Oeste, for eucalyptus and pine.

In 2021, 15 million m³ of roasted wood were produced in Rio Grande do Sul, which was equivalent to R$ 1.2 billion in terms of production value and approximately 10.1% of the total national production (IBGE)
